Soluna Energía - Colombia
Over a million people in Colombia still live without access to quality, reliable energy. Some of these individuals have no access at all, having to rely on candles or kerosene lamps, often walking for up to 3-5 hours just to charge a cell phone. Others are forced to ration their energy use during the 3-5 hours per day allocated by polluting and antiquated diesel-powered microgrids. This is harmful to the environment, expensive for the customers, and, in many cases, a danger to their health. Soluna is a next-generation utility that combines expertise and cutting-edge technology to create a last-mile energy business that provides electricity services to the families in Colombia that do not have access to quality energy. Soluna's customers receive high-quality in-home electrical installations and can connect appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and TVs. The future is here-- it is just not evenly distributed yet. Soluna exists to change this story and to ensure that all families-- no matter how far or how remote-- have access to power.
Impact
The projects give access to clean solar energy to under served communities. Each installation saves up to 1 tonne of CO2e per year. Furthermore reducing the air pollution inside household and improving the health and safety of communities.
About Soluna Energia
Soluna was founded in 2019 as a joint-venture between iluméxico, a last-mile solar service provider in Mexico, and Hybrytec, an expert in solar installations at all levels iluméxico, a certified B-Corp, has been serving rural communities in Mexico since 2010. They've installed over 23,000 systems in over 20,000 communities, benefitting over 100,000 individuals. Having been in the industry for 13 years, Hybrytec is a leader in the Colombian solar industry and has completed over 260 projects and deployed over 24MWp in installed capacity. Together, the two companies launched Soluna, a next-generation utility whose mission is to ensure that all families have access to power.
